Honoring the
Women of the Black Panther Party,The West Oakland Mural Project started in 2020 during the rebellions and Covid 19. Wanting more postive and inspiring murals to look at, the home owner and curator Jilchristina Vest decided to turn her house into a monument.
Centerally located in heart of Black Panther history, this Mural and 1st of its kind Black Panther Party Museum sits around the corner from the BPP headquaters at 1048 Peralta and across the street where Huey. P. Newton, one of the founders of The BPP was assasinated in 1989.
Visit and literally look up to these revolutionairies and say their names.
Leave them flowers, an offering, a thank you. Tell them that what they did for us matters, they can hear you.

Open since Juneteenth Weekend 2021, the first ever Black Panther Party Museum @ The Mural, is a 1200 sqft museum on the first floor of a private home. It's a sweet introduction to the Community Survival Programs and all the work The Panthers were doing.
Being the first ever Black Panther Party Museum in the country is great, but there should never be "an only". So, just last year, in 2024, this museum inspired the opening of a second museum in downtown.
That's right,
Oakland now has two BPP Museums!
